Methodology

Visafig publishes planning estimates, not predictions. This page shows exactly how each number is built, so you can judge its reliability yourself before you act on it.

1. Forward “months-to-Current” estimate

Take your priority date and the latest official cutoff for your category and country. The gap in days is divided by the verified average monthly movement of that cutoff across the stored bulletins. That gives a planning estimate of how many months until the cutoff reaches your date. We never invent a single absolute “you will be current on X date.”

2. Reverse projection

Given a target green-card date, we project the cutoff forward by (months until target) × (average monthly movement), then read off the latest priority date that would be Current by then. PERM and I-140 deadlines are derived by subtracting your adjustable lead times. If the category is Unavailable, the tool returns a warning instead of a false date.

3. Three-scenario discipline

Where we present outlooks, we frame them as optimistic / baseline / conservative bands and label the error sources: demand spikes, per-country caps, and retrogression (cutoffs moving backward, as India EB-2 did in 2026). A backward move can erase years of progress, so we never present a monotonic straight-line future.
